Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2, 2025
CleanMyMacOS ("the App") is developed and published by Spectrum Labs ("we", "us", "our"), based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data the App collects (almost none) and how we handle it.
1. Data We Do Not Collect
CleanMyMacOS does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically:
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No crash reporting sent to us
- No telemetry of any kind
- No advertising identifiers
- No user accounts or login
- No data leaves your Mac
The App runs entirely on your device. All scanning, cleanup, and settings changes happen locally.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your Mac using standard macOS mechanisms:
- Security-scoped bookmarks — Persistent access tokens for folders you grant permission to. Stored in the app's sandboxed UserDefaults.
- Cleanup history — An audit log of cleanup sessions (dates, categories, file counts, space reclaimed). Stored locally in UserDefaults. Never transmitted.
- App preferences — Your settings and configuration choices. Stored locally in UserDefaults.
- macOS tweak states — Read from and written to macOS UserDefaults domains (e.g., com.apple.finder). These are standard macOS system preferences.
All locally stored data can be removed by deleting the App.
3. File System Access
CleanMyMacOS is fully sandboxed and distributed through the Mac App Store. The App can only access:
- Folders you explicitly grant access to via the standard macOS file picker (NSOpenPanel)
- The Downloads folder (with the downloads entitlement)
- The app's own sandboxed container
The App cannot access arbitrary files on your system. File access is enforced by macOS at the kernel level.
4. File Deletion
When you choose to clean up files, the App uses FileManager.trashItem() to move items to the macOS Trash. Files are not permanently deleted unless you explicitly empty the Trash yourself. The App never silently deletes files.
5. In-App Purchases
CleanMyMacOS offers in-app purchases (Pro subscription and Lifetime unlock) through the Mac App Store via RevenueCat. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple and RevenueCat. We receive:
- An anonymous subscriber identifier
- Entitlement status (whether you have an active subscription)
- No personal information, no email, no name
For details on how Apple handles purchase data, see Apple's Privacy Policy. For RevenueCat, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
6. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party service:
- RevenueCat — For managing in-app purchases and subscription entitlements. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipts. No personal data is shared.
No other third-party services, SDKs, or APIs are used. No advertising networks, no analytics platforms, no social media integrations.
7. Children's Privacy
CleanMyMacOS does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The App does not require an account and does not track users in any way.
8. Data Security
Since the App does not collect or transmit data, there is no data to secure on our end. Local data on your Mac is protected by macOS's sandboxing, FileVault encryption (if enabled), and your user account password.
9. Your Rights (GDPR)
Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, delete, or port. If you have questions about this, contact us at the address below.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
